Bishop Lavis and Valhalla Park residents receive title deeds

The City of Cape Town’s Human Settlements Directorate together with the National Minister of Human Settlements, Thembi Simelane, and the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim delivered title deeds to residents in Bishop Lavis and Valhalla Park.

As part of the National Minister’s Budget vote activities in the Western Cape, Minister Simelane joined Councillor Pophaim and City officials to personally take part in the City’s title deeds and homeownership drive to hand over title deeds to beneficiaries at their homes in Bishop Lavis.

‘It was a great pleasure to host Minister Simelane as we delivered title deeds to the doorsteps of residents in Bishop Lavis. Our Deeds-to-Door campaign continues to be one of our most impactful programmes, because it brings a meaningful service directly to our residents. Through this campaign, we are not only delivering pieces of paper – we are creating opportunities, restoring dignity, and assisting with security of tenure to families who need it the most,’ said Councillor Pophaim.

After the Bishop Lavis handover, the Human Settlements team and Councillor Pophaim proceeded to Valhalla Park, where 30 more beneficiaries and their families received their title deeds.

‘We are committed to creating more homeowners in Cape Town. I know first hand how life-changing a title deed can be – it changed the lives of members of my own family, and today we are seeing it transform the lives of so many more residents in our city.

‘Our City Human Settlements teams are on a mission, and we are investing more than R20 million to fund the transfer of properties at no cost to qualifying residents. This is the single largest municipal commitment of its kind in South Africa. We are working hard on the ground daily to make a difference and build a city of hope for all,’ said Pophaim.
